Quincy's Family

Quincy was our foster child for the 1989-1990 school year, when Quincy was 11 to 12. He came to us somewhat by accident. He'd been one of a gaggle of kids who hung out at a gym where Dick worked out and had decided to adopt Dick as his wannabe Daddy. One night we had a phone call—Quincy's mother was unavoidably away, and his grandmother had been taken to the hospital. Could Dick take Quincy for the weekend?

It turned out to be a long weekend.

Mimi's mother was with us then, too, and she announced on the occasion of Quincy's school's first PTA meeting that she was coming along. "After all," she announced, "I'm the grandmother."

We were a family for only a school year, but, like real families, we developed our own traditions—pizza on Friday nights was one—and still talk about them.

Quincy has his own family now, and we want to show them off—especially his kid and a half known as Quora (pronounced cue-AR-a).
