Ronnie Rosenberg, Kathleen, Martin, Rocky, and Augie

Kathleen and Martin

Our northernmost beagles live with Ronnie Rosenberg in the hills north of Fairbanks, Alaska. Sarah regarded herself as the beagle empress of the Tanana Valley. Kathleen reigns as chief counter cruiser, moose watcher, and chowhound. Martin is a cross between a beagle and an Alaskan husky. In the summer he has the sleek coat of a beagle, but in winter he puts on a dense undercoat. Rocky may look like a cutie, but don't let looks deceive you. Prior to coming to live with Ronnie and the pack, he had the singular notoriety of being on the North Star Borough's most wanted list of incorrigible canines. He's still a doglinquent, but is no longer running at large on public highways.

The beagles and Ronnie live with a husband, a child, and numerous animals. Included with the pack are pictures of three beagles who have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Nicholas is shown catching some rays during his 20th summer. He died eight months later, right before his 21st birthday. Sarah is pictured as a youngster with her best friend, Junior, who was Nicholas's son. Sarah joined the others at the Bridge on May 12, 2006, after a long battle with cancer. She would have been 19 in the coming August. Augie is another rescue, picture to come.

Not pictured but dear in memory is Daniel, who died in December of 1997. He was a very photogenic fellow, and a picture will be forthcoming.

Mary Sanders

Hutch
Hutch

Mary and Hutch lived in Tennessee, as Mary still does. Hutch liked to eat, sleep on the couch, track animals in the neighborhood, and wrestle with his Pembroke Welsh corgi cousins, Chipper and Andy. Hutch's trick repertoire included sitting up, shaking hands, and speaking. Sadly, Hutch lost a courageous battle with cancer in early April of 2006.

Mary enjoys surfing the Web, participating in e-mail lists, shopping online, and reading. Her love of dogs began in childhood. A beagle named Lucky was her first. Added to the family when Mary was 5, Lucky patiently modeled necklaces and bracelets crafted from Play-Doh. Mary also shared many years of life with a loyal Chihuahua mix named Tuffy.

Yvette Subramanian, Chakli, and Jack

Chakli as He Is Today
Chakli as he is today

Chakli lives in Orinda, California, with his mom, Yvette; dad, Vivek; human brother, Kush; two cats, Maurice and Claude; and his sister Ginger. He was born November 1, 1999, and came into the family around Christmastime that year.

Yvette and Vivek soon realized that beagle puppies, while the cutest things ever, get into way too much trouble on their own and got him a chewtoy/disciplinarian named Ginger. However, the disciplinarian in Ginger never emerged, and she now actively conspires with Chakli to escape the fenced yard and roam around, chasing the abundant deer. So the fence wars continue. The cats, of course, sit on the other side of the fence and antagonize the dogs whenever possible. A new rescue beagle, Jack, joined the family in November 2001.

Both Yvette and Vivek work at the University of California at Berkeley, Yvette as the editor for chemistry and Vivek as a faculty member in electrical engineering, although Chakli can't figure out why his dad never wears his train-driving outfit home! His name means "circle" in Hindi because he used to sleep all curled up. Alas, no more. Now he puts the king in king-sized mattress!

Tamara D. H. Syron and Mo

Tamara Syon, Max, and Mo
Tam with beagles Max and Mo

Satchmo lives with Tamara and her husband John in Lansing, Michigan. When Mo was only five weeks old (he was born March 17, 1995), he was rescued by Tamara's brother. Mo came to live with Tamara and John in August 1996.

Max was rescued from the Capital Area Humane Society on June 1, 1996; he had been born the previous October. His big brown eyes just called to the Syrons, who had been so lonely after they lost Linus, their first beagle, at the age of eight weeks.

Heidi at 11 joined Tam's pack on the death of her person, Tam's brother Curtis. Tam's last promise to her dying brother was to take care of his beloved beagle.

Sadly, both Heidi and Max went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 31, 2002. Heidi's death was expected; Max's was not.

Tam works at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University, but after 5 is a musician, actress, and writer. There's more (including Linus) on the Web.

Judy Watts, Hannah, and Virginia

Hannah and Virginia allow their parents, Judy and Gary Watts, and their baby brother, Cameron, to live with them in their home in central Orange County, California. They were born on May 9, 1991, and were adopted about nine weeks later. Their favorite pastimes are sleeping, eating, singing, snuggling, taking walks, sniffing, greeting people, and—oh, yes—sleeping.

Hannah and Virginia were born in Virginia, and Hannah was named for the Rappahannock River, while Virginia was named for—Virginia. They migrated to California in May '96, where Gary does financial consulting and Judy is a high school English, theater, chorus, and leadership teacher with the Tustin Unified School District.

Tess

Katie (above left) and Tess (above right) enjoy the country life near Normangee, Texas. Katie is the wild child, Tess the thinker. They are best buddies. They sniff together, wrestle, and play tug-o'-war. Their favorite game is chase with Katie in the lead and Tess aroooooing in hot pursuit.

Pretty Ms. Riley (below right) was a rescue. Elaine wanted to find a good home for her—and finally decided that her own home would be best. Sadly, Ms. Riley went to the Rainbow Bridge on April 17, 2001.

But the good news is that beautiful Misty Coffey, her championship and her puppying done, has become Elaine's newest forever beagle.
